What You Need to Know Before You Ride Off Road
No licence needed — but you must be able to ride a geared motorcycle.
Some prior experience is recommended. Riders are split into small groups based on ability, and you'll be paired with an experienced instructor and riders who’ll tailor the session to your level. We’ll ask a few simple questions about your riding background before you start.
We provide the protective kit — helmet, body armour, pads, boots and the motorcycle itself. Just come dressed in base layers or lightweight gear. Long sleeves and leggings.
Yes — all sessions include refreshments. Depending on your time slot, you'll enjoy:
Morning sessions:
Pastries and hot drinks
Lunchtime sessions:
Buffet-style spread with sandwiches, wraps, crisps, tea and coffee, cold drinks
Yes, we have two gender-neutral toilets on site.
Absolutely. You can book for a friend, partner or family member — just make sure they’re aware of the booking and available to answer the rider experience questions we ask after checkout.
We use a mix of off-road-ready machines:
2-stroke and 4-stroke Beta motorcycles Electric Ecomotion bikes
You'll have a chance to try more than one during the 2.5-hour session.
The session starts at Machinehead Moto HQ, based at Loseley Park in Guildford. We begin in the field next to the workshop, before heading into the private woodland trails within the estate grounds.
Groups are kept small for a better experience — typically around 6 riders per instructor.
Each session lasts between 2.5 to 3 hours, actual rideing time , rider briefing, kit-up, breaks, and refreshments are extra.
Our trail loops are approx 4k across private fields and woodland. The terrain varies throughout the session — we’ll adapt it to suit each group, so you’ll get a mix of smooth lines, technical sections, and natural features.
We ride in all conditions — rain just adds to the fun! If extreme weather makes it unsafe, we’ll contact you in advance with rescheduling options.
Definitely. Experienced riders love having full access to private land without dog walkers, horses, or traffic. The trails can be tailored to push your ability and keep things interesting.
Unfortunately not — all participants must be active riders. The off-road area is private land and access is limited to insured riders only.
Each session is £125 and includes the motorcycle, full kit, refreshments, and instructor-led coaching.
Bookings are made online via our Off-Road page. All sessions are run in partnership with Desert Rose Riding Academy.
We’re not able to accept cash payments. All bookings must be made online through our website and processed securely via Desert Rose.
You’ll change at Machinehead HQ — we have an on-site changing room. The Desert Rose team also bring a fully kitted-out changing truck.
Not in these sessions — but we do run Junior Off-Road Days, which are listed on our Events Calendar.
Note: Junior riders must be at least 1.5m tall to participate.
We can accommodate newer riders as long as you’ve had some time on a geared motorcycle. If you’re unsure, just let us know at the time of booking — we’ll tailor the session to help you build confidence.
