Slide School – Flat Track Skills Day
Learning What Happens When Grip Disappears
There’s a moment every rider recognises.
The bike moves underneath you.
A tyre slips. The rear steps out. The bars go light for a second.
Your brain immediately says: this is bad.
Most of us spend years trying to avoid that moment.
But in the right environment, those moments are exactly where real riding skill begins.
That’s what Slide School is about.

Why Flat Track?
Flat track riding takes place on a smooth dirt surface that behaves a little like tarmac — but with reduced grip.
That might sound intimidating, but it actually creates one of the best learning environments for riders.
Because the surface has less grip, the bike communicates much more clearly. You can feel exactly what the tyres are doing, how traction builds and releases, and how small changes in throttle, balance or body position affect the bike.
Instead of reacting with panic, riders begin to understand what’s happening underneath them.
And once you understand that, it changes how you ride everywhere.
Road riding.
Adventure riding.
Gravel.
Commuting.
Confidence grows when you understand what the bike is telling you.
A Day With Dirt Craft
Slide School is a full-day flat track skills experience delivered in collaboration with Dirt Craft.
We’re running this as a Machinehead Moto group event because better bike control benefits every rider. Whether you ride road, adventure, commute daily, or mix disciplines, the fundamentals of traction and control remain the same.
Throughout the day, riders work through progressive exercises designed to build confidence step by step. Sessions are structured, but relaxed, with plenty of riding time and coaching throughout.
You’ll explore:
- Flat track fundamentals
- Riding style and body position
- Corner entry technique
- Controlled throttle application
- Understanding traction and tyre feedback
- Line choice and momentum
Who It’s For
Slide School is open to all experience levels.
You do not need:
- Flat track experience
- Off-road experience
- To consider yourself an “advanced” rider
The day works particularly well for:
- Road riders wanting more confidence and control
- Adventure riders developing loose-surface skills
- Mixed-discipline riders
- Anyone curious about flat track
If you’re open to learning, you’ll get a huge amount from the day.
