Motorcycle Theft in the UK is Rising — Let’s Talk About It

Motorcycle theft is something most riders try not to think about too much.

Until it happens. Or until someone you know has a bike taken.

Over the last year we’ve heard more and more stories from riders coming through the workshop & shop.

  • Some recovered their bikes.
  • Some didn’t.
  • Some had trackers.
  • Some didn’t.

Some thought their security setup was solid — until it wasn’t.

The reality is that motorcycle theft in the UK has become more organised, more targeted, and in many cases faster than most riders expect.

And there’s a lot of confusion around what actually works when it comes to protecting your bike.

So we thought it was time to get riders together and have a proper conversation about it.

That’s why we hosted a Motorcycle Theft & Security Evening at Machinehead Moto in Guildford — to talk openly about what’s actually happening and what riders can realistically do about it.

Let’s Talk About It

On Thursday 19 March we hosted a Motorcycle Theft & Security Evening at Machinehead Moto with Julie from BikeTrac.

A big thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions, and shared their experiences — the room was exactly what we hoped for.

Julie deals with theft incidents, recovery stories, and tracking technology every single day. She sees how bikes are stolen, what security slows thieves down, and what happens when a tracker activates.

It gave riders a chance to talk openly about what’s happening and share real questions.

Some of the questions raised on the night included:

  • My tracker didn’t work — why?
  • Can thieves jam tracking systems?
  • How do organised gangs steal bikes so quickly?
  • What security actually slows them down?
  • Do police respond when a tracker activates?

These are the real questions riders are asking right now — and they deserve honest answers.

An evening of open conversation with riders and Julie from BikeTrac, focused on real-world motorcycle theft and security.

Why We Hosted This

Machinehead Moto has always been about riders helping riders.

And right now, motorcycle theft is affecting too many people in our community.

So instead of ignoring it — we’re talking about it.

If the evening helped even a handful of riders better understand how to protect their bikes, then it was worth it.

What Happens Next

We’ll be updating this article with key insights, answers, and takeaways from the evening.

If you couldn’t make it, we’ll make sure the important bits are shared here.

And this won’t be the last time we host conversations like this — the response from the community made that pretty clear.

We’ll be adding our update here soon — and sharing what really matters.
